Can the VIN tell me if a Tahoe has a locking differential?

G80 — Automatic locking rear differential. This code identifies a factory-installed axle feature. Browse RPO codes →

We get snow here and I want to know whether my 2016 Tahoe has the locking rear differential before winter. The dealer I bought it from could not tell me. Is that something the VIN reveals, or do I need the full record?

The VIN will not tell you. G80 is an option code and it lives in the build record, not in the seventeen characters.

Pull the build sheet and look for G80 in the axle block. If it is there, you have it. Mine has it and it makes a real difference on unplowed roads.

It is listed. That is one less thing to worry about before the snow starts.

Worth knowing it engages automatically rather than by a switch, so do not go looking for a button on the dash.
