Seller insists his 2017 has the factory towing package. I pulled the build record for the VIN he gave me and the trailering group is not on it. There is a hitch on the truck. How do I handle this without accusing him of lying?

There is a hitch and there is a package. A hitch can be added in an afternoon. The factory package includes wiring, cooling and often a different axle, and none of that is on his truck.

Most sellers in this position genuinely believe it. They see a hitch and a seven pin and assume. It is usually not deliberate.

That is the framing I needed. I asked him about the cooling and he admitted he did not know. We agreed on a lower price.

Good outcome. The record gave you a fact to negotiate with instead of an argument.
