J60 — Brake system identification code. This code identifies factory-installed brake equipment. Browse RPO codes →

At the counter we constantly get people ordering the wrong brake parts for these trucks because there are multiple options for the same year and model. Can the RPO codes narrow it down reliably, or is measuring the rotor still the safer bet?

The codes narrow it down well. Brake content has its own codes and it will tell you which system the vehicle was built with, which usually resolves the ambiguity.

The caveat is a vehicle that has had a brake upgrade or a warranty change. The record tells you the factory configuration, not what is on it today.

So codes first to get to the right family, then confirm by measurement if anything looks off. That is faster than measuring blind.

That is how we do it. It cuts the wrong-part returns down a lot.
