Z71 — Off-road suspension package. This code identifies a factory-installed chassis or suspension group. Browse RPO codes →

I pulled the build sheet for my 2016 Silverado 1500 and got about sixty three-character codes with short descriptions next to them. Some are obvious but a lot of them read like abbreviations of abbreviations. Is there a sensible order to work through these, or do I just look them up one at a time? I mostly want to confirm the suspension and the rear end before I buy tires. Any advice from people who have gone through this would help.

Work them in blocks rather than one at a time. The sheet is grouped roughly by system, so powertrain codes sit together, then chassis, then interior and appearance. Once you know which block you are in, the abbreviations make a lot more sense.

Ignore the codes at first and read only the descriptions. Nine times out of ten the description answers your question and you never need to know what the code itself stands for.

For suspension specifically, look for a Z-prefix code. Z71 is the off-road package and it will be right there in the chassis block if you have it.

One warning: a code confirms what the truck left the plant with, not what is bolted to it today. On a 2016 with unknown history, verify the shocks and the rear cover yourself before ordering parts.
